“The Bible study method used in this series revolves around four basic steps: observation, interpretation, correlation, and application. Observation answers the question, What does the text say? Interpretation deals with, What does the text mean?—not with what it means to you or me, but what it meant to its original readers. Correlation asks, What light do other Scripture passages shed on this text? And application, the goal of Bible study, poses the question, How should my life change in response to the Holy Spirit’s teaching of this text?” (source)
“The biblical idea of God’s calling is not simply that He invites men to serve Him. The call of God is more than that. You might say the calling of God is an invitation with clout in it. It is more like a summons. The summons comes through His Word and the power of the Holy Spirit laying hold of the one summoned, convincing him or her that God has spoken. The purpose of the call is that the one summoned might participate in and enjoy the blessed benefits of God’s redemptive purposes and participate in the Great Commission to reach the world for Christ.” (source)
“The call to follow Jesus also meant a call to discipleship that required that the twelve come under His leadership. No longer would they independently decide the direction their lives would take. Instead, they would submit to Him with the commitment that where He led they would follow.” (source)
“To whomever the call comes and wherever it may lead, let our response be like that of Abraham—a quick decision to obey. This response will assure that the purposes of God will be fulfilled.” (source)
