Complete Expositor's Bible Commentary Set

The Gold Medallion Award-winning Expositor’s Bible Commentary is a major contribution to the study and understanding of the Scriptures. Providing pastors and Bible students with a comprehensive and scholarly tool for the exposition of the Scriptures and the teaching and proclamation of their message, this 12-volume reference work has become a staple of seminary and college libraries and pastors’ studies worldwide.

Expositor’s Bible Commentary (EBC) uses the New International Version (NIV) for its English text, but also refers freely to other translations and to the original languages. Each book of the Bible has in addition to its exposition an introduction, outline, and bibliography. Notes on textual questions and special problems are correlated with the expository units; transliteration and translation of Semitic and Greek words make the more technical notes accessible to readers unacquainted with the biblical languages. In matters where marked differences of opinion exist, commentators, while stating their own convictions, deal fairly and irenically with opposing views.

For an abridged version, see the 2-volume edition here.

This volume [Volume 11] continues the high standard of volume 10. While drawing on the resources of contemporary scholarship, [the contributors] distinguish hypothesis from fact, conjecture from truth. On controversial items a fair presentation of the position of others accompanies a clear statement of the contributor quote s own view. This volume as well as volume 10 should prove extremely useful to the parish pastor.

Just as I procrastinated purchasing LOGOS 9 because of the cost, I did the same with this purchase. For an ordinary Bible student, this is just what the doctor ordered. My only regret is I first purchased the abridged version and wasted about 50 bucks. Although there is nothing wrong with the abridged version, I liked it so much that I upgraded.

--Scholarly yet accessible depth, with pastoral devotion, at an affordable price. This commentary has the best explanation of Matthew 24 that I've read in any commentary. The abridged version is good too.
