Christian Answers to Hard Questions Young Adults Face

resources about tough topics

I have two young adult children, and as they finished high school, I remember feeling the weight of knowing I hadn’t equipped them well enough to process many issues they would face that could potentially challenge their beliefs. I had tried my best, and so had my husband. We hoped they gleaned helpful information from their high school youth group leaders—yet we knew they, too, weren’t equipped to prepare young adults for today’s world.

That was D. A. Carson’s concern, along with a group of faculty from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS), who decided to create a book series that offers Christian answers to hard questions young adults face, especially those from Christian homes and churches.

They were well aware that these young adults do not have the time nor the interest to dive into a heady volume on a given subject “written by experts for experts.” And even if they did, that would be an exhaustive study on just one topic. “On the other hand,” he writes in the introduction to the series, “brief pamphlets with predictable answers couched in safe slogans [would] prove neither attractive nor convincing.”

So they adopted a middle-of-the-road plan. Of the series, Carson writes:

We have written short books pitched at undergraduates who want arguments that are accessible and stimulating, but invariably courteous. The material is comprehensive enough that it has become an important resource for pastors and other campus leaders who devote their energies to work with students. Each book ends with a brief annotated bibliography and study questions, intended for readers who want to probe a little further.

Each topic in the 17-volume Questions for Restless Minds Series (D. A. Carson is the series editor) offers Christian answers to hard questions honestly and clearly to help pastors, leaders, and parents help young adults think wisely, act with conviction, and become more like Christ.

In short? The books focus on how to think biblically.

The series covers a wide range of topics centered around critical questions many Christians wrestle with today written by some of today’s top Christian leaders and thinkers:

  • How Should Christians Think about Sex? by Christopher Ash
  • What Does Nature Teach Us about God? by Kirsten Birkett
  • Who Is Jesus of Nazareth? by Craig L. Blomberg

Praise for the Questions for Restless Minds Series

This generation of Christians inhabit cultures that sometimes reject not only biblical revelation about reality, but also the reality of reality itself. The Questions for Restless Minds series poses many of the toughest questions faced by young Christians to some of the world’s foremost Christian thinkers and leaders. Along the way, this series seeks to help the Christian next generation to learn how to think biblically when they face questions in years to come that perhaps no one yet sees coming.

—Russell Moore, public theologian, Christianity Today

If you’re hungry to go deeper in your faith, wrestle with hard questions, and are dissatisfied with the shallow content on your social media newsfeed, you’ll really appreciate this series of thoughtful deep dives on critically important topics like faith, the Bible, friendship, sexuality, philosophy, and more. As you engage with some world-class Christian scholars, you’ll be encouraged, equipped, challenged, and above all invited to love God more with your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
