Job’s response to adversity is a testimony of trust in God’s faithfulness, providence, and care. Regardless of the situation they find themselves in, readers can trust in the fact that God already knows what will happen. He will be with them along the way. As difficult as a Christian’s path may be, God intends for them to walk in greater understanding and trust. This commentary encourages this to happen more readily through clear teaching on the book of Job.
“When there are no answers on earth; when it all seems so unfair; when life delivers one cruel message after another; when clouds are dark with no silver lining—that is when we worship God with childlike faith. That is when we learn to truly worship Him on the basis of who He is, rather than how we expect Him to act.” (Page 32)
“He also suggests another new concept: suffering not only keeps people from sin, it causes them to learn the ways of God” (Page 230)
“When we find rest for our souls, we will find strength for our flesh.” (Page 112)
“Frankly, there isn’t anything more destructive, defeating, discouraging, deflating, or depressing than ill-timed, unwise, uncaring, unfeeling, self-centered, self-promoting words.” (Page 96)
“Job is revealing more than he fully understood. He’s certainly delivering more truth about Christ than he could ever begin to explain.” (Page 180)
