Overview

Edited by David Platt, Daniel L. Akin, and Tony Merida, this new commentary series, projected to be 48 volumes, takes a Christ- centered approach to expositing each book of the Bible. Rather than a verse-by-verse approach, the authors have crafted chapters that explain and apply key passages in their assigned Bible books. Readers will learn to see Christ in all aspects of Scripture, and they will be encouraged by the devotional nature of each exposition. Projected contributors to the series include notable authors such as Russell D. Moore, Al Mohler, Matt Chandler, Francis Chan, Mark Dever, and others.

Top Highlights

“Pentecost Means Prophecy Has Been Fulfilled (2:16)” (Page 27)

“Pentecost Means Christ Has Ascended to the Throne (2:22–36)” (Page 28)

“This prayer is for mission above comfort (vv. 29–30).” (Page 65)

“So, what was God teaching the church with this marvelous sign? The obvious point is that the gospel is for the nations. Thus, the church must spread the gospel to every people, tribe, and to those of every language, for that is God’s redemptive plan (Rev 5:9–10). God’s ultimate community—the citizenry of heaven—consists of a transnational, transtribal, transracial, and translinguistic people.” (Page 25)

“Additionally, this chapter shows us the need for extending Christian charity in maintaining unity within the body. When matters don’t involve the essentials of the faith, Christians should be flexible. They should be sensitive to others’ consciences and, in love, avoid offending the weaker brother or sister by arguing nonessentials.” (Page 209)
