We can become discouraged when we focus so intently on our problems that we forget God's presence by our side. Like Peter trying to walk on top of the wind-whipped waves on the Sea of Galilee, we can survive life's storms as long as we keep our focus on the Lord. But all too often we take our eyes off Him and find ourselves sinking into a sea of despair, discouragement, and doubt. Thankfully, Jesus reaches out His hand to us, just as He did to Peter, to catch us before we go completely under (see Matthew 14:28-31). No valley is too deep, no mountain too high-or no sea too tempestuous-to keep God from coming to our rescue. Are you burdened by problems that seem overwhelming? Perhaps you feel alone in life's harsh wilderness-hemmed in on all sides by mountainous problems and valleys of despair. Or perhaps you feel as if you are drowning in a sea of troubles, struggling helplessly against the doubt and discouragement that threaten to engulf you. Whichever metaphor describes your current struggles, you must realize now that you are not alone. God has promised to come to your aid, bringing comfort and hope.
