The Portent

Ancient conspiracy. Relentless evil. The hunt for answers continues.

The climactic ending of The Façade left Brian Scott and Melissa Kelley with only each other—and the terrible secrets they carry. The Portent finds them living under new identities, their future clouded by constant fear of being exposed.

Follow Brian and Melissa into the center of an unthinkably vast, centuries-old conspiracy, conceived to turn the faith of millions against itself. Revelations from ancient tombs, long-forgotten Nazi experiments, UFOs, occult mythologies, biblical theology, and godlike technologies converge in answer to a terrifying question: Now that “they” are here, what do they want?

By the time Brian and Melissa learn they’re being watched, their carefully constructed lives will be over.

Top Highlights

“Brian leaned forward. ‘Well, this might sound odd, but I don’t struggle with it because I committed myself a long time ago to let the Bible be what it is in its original context and say what it says to its original audience. I don’t look at it as something it isn’t. God made it what it is, and I’m not second-guessing Him.’” (Page 357)

“‘Christians talk a lot about interpreting the Bible in context, but then they filter the Bible through some other context. We shouldn’t filter Scripture through the early church or any church tradition, whether that’s Catholicism, Orthodoxy, the Reformation, or evangelicalism. The context of the Bible is the context that produced it. Everything else is a foreign context.’” (Page 358)

“‘The date was the birthday of the world … a date that Jewish tradition considered the birthday of Noah.’” (Page 312)

“‘I believe that an evil intelligence is behind what’s been passed off as an extraterrestrial mythology, or religion, and that there are divine beings who can interact with us in physical form. That’s a pretty straightforward point in biblical theology.” (Page 78)

“the swastika; the name comes from a Sanskrit word, svastika, which means ‘good to be.’ It was a good-luck symbol.’” (Page 346)

Michael S. Heiser

Dr. Michael S. Heiser was a former Scholar-in-Residence for Faithlife Corporation, the makers of Logos Bible Software. He then served as the Executive Director of the Awakening School of Theology and Ministry. His varied academic background enabled him to operate in the realm of critical scholarship and the wider Christian community. His experience in teaching at the undergraduate level and writing for the layperson both directly contributed to Logos’ goal of adapting scholarly tools for nonspecialists.

Dr. Heiser earned his PhD in Hebrew Bible and Semitic languages and holds an MA in ancient history and Hebrew studies. He was the coeditor of Old Testament Greek Pseudepigrapha with Morphology and Semitic Inscriptions: Analyzed Texts and English Translations, and he was able to do translation work in roughly a dozen ancient languages, including Biblical Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, Egyptian hieroglyphs, and Ugaritic cuneiform. He specialized in Israelite religion (especially Israel’s divine council), contextualizing biblical theology with Israelite and ancient Near Eastern religion, Jewish binitarianism, biblical languages, ancient Semitic languages, textual criticism, comparative philology, and Second Temple period Jewish literature. In 2007 he was named the Pacific Northwest Regional Scholar by the Society of Biblical Literature.
