Overview

Michael A. Milton addresses timely questions of the postmodern city by coming to terms with pluralism, finding a working model to deal with it, testing the model against Scripture, and applying it in real life ministry settings. This work provides unique insights into faithful ministry in a pluralist setting, and was originally presented to the annual meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society in Washington, D.C., in November 2006.

Top Highlights

“It may be that, as I have seen suggested, pluralism is a faith that exists as a people are on their way from one orthodoxy to another. We are moving from a Christian West to something else, and pluralism serves as the necessary faith bridge, if you will, to get us there.” (Page 7)

“all spiritual paths are finally leading to the same sacred ground.’16” (Page 7)

“Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.’ It is more accurately ‘Toto, Kansas isn’t Kansas anymore.’ The question remains: How do we conduct faithful gospel ministry in this environment?” (Page 6)

“Eliot is silenced beneath the cacophony of politically correct voices that equate pluralism with peace and exclusive truth claims with repression.” (Page 8)

“Will the motto, cooperation without compromise, continue to work in an increasingly pluralistic and secular environment?” (Page 3)

Dr. Michael A. Milton became the President and Professor of Practical Theology of Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte on November 1, 2007, after serving as Senior Pastor of the historic First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he conducted a ministry that included a radio and television outreach. This multimedia ministry continues at RTS through The Call with Mike Milton. Dr. Milton’s personal story of moving from orphan and prodigal son – to understanding God’s grace and receiving his adoption through Jesus Christ – informs his frequent motif for offering Christ’s healing to a broken generation. Often his sermons are illustrated with songs that he writes, sings, and performs with guitar. His recording, He Shall Restore, was released in 2006 under the label Music for Missions and is distributed through iTunes. In addition to his pastoral work, Dr. Milton holds a commission in the U.S. Army Reserves as a chaplain. Serving on several boards and active in a number of civic organizations, he also maintains a full schedule of preaching and teaching in churches, and at seminaries and conferences.
