Top Highlights

“At 6:15 the wall was up, but it surrounded an empty and depopulated city. Now, after chapters 7–11, we have a holy city filled with holy people, and the ceremony dedicating the wall has meaning.” (Page 387)

“There is nothing to refute the supposition that both Ezra and Nehemiah had a hand in the writing of the book, though the narrator is never explicitly identified with either man.” (Page 26)

“the Jews were at fault for allowing the foreign opposition to delay the project indefinitely.” (Page 127)

“There is a notable lack of messianism in Ezra-Nehemiah” (Page 75)

“Like Ezra, he is a man of prayer (e.g. 4:4–5 [Heb. 3:36–37]; 5:19), so that his activism is not to be viewed as reliance on his own efforts.” (Page 38)
