Overview

Mundane or motivational? Lackluster or lively? Redundant or reviving? What words would describe your personal Bible study? Be honest. If you're like many people, you've probably felt at one time or another a twinge of guilt about not getting fully enjoyment out of personal Bible study time. You may wonder how some people can percolate with enthusiasm over the same passages you've read time and time again—unmoved. What's their secret? Howard Hendricks knows that the "secret" is really no secret at all. It is simply a case of practicing effective Bible study methods. But to practice them you must know them. And that's where Howard Hendricks and his son Bill can enlighten you and show you the steps to living by the Book.

“‘This book will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from this book.’ That was true then, and it’s still true today. Dusty Bibles always lead to dirty lives. In fact, you are either in the Word and the Word is conforming you to the image of Jesus Christ, or you are in the world and the world is squeezing you into its mold.” (Page 13)

“How can anyone believe in supernatural miracles when the world is obviously governed by natural laws and forces” (Page 81)

“recognized the parallels between the life of Joseph and the life of our Lord” (Page 155)

“same thing when we come to the gospels. For example, of Matthew’s 1,062 verses, at least 342” (Page 148)

“By contrast, the writer devotes chapters 12–50 to the lives of four individuals: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob” (Page 148)

Hendricks adds his charm and teaching style into providing a well rounded approach to not just studying The Bible, but could also apply to studying anything. However, the book has specific application to The Bible. Broken into three sections, Hendricks focuses your attention on what to read, how to read, and how to apply what you read. This is a good book for any young Christian or young person who is starting to take their Bible reading to a deeper level. If you are well established in the faith and set up for yourself a useful and godly Bible study, you should skip this book. Although if you need a refresher or just love reading Hendrick (ooo ooo that's me! that's me!) then pick this up. A good foundational book for the Ultimate Foundation for your life. Final Grade - B
