Rethinking David and Goliath

In Rethinking David and Goliath, Lisa Eary surveys the field of evangelical narrative criticism and then applies her findings to David’s heroic triumph. In the process of doing so, she unveils new insights that are meaningful to researchers and preachers alike.

Learn what evangelical narrative criticism is all about and see it in practice. Understand the viewpoints of the leaders in evangelical narrative criticism—Meir Sternberg, J. Daniel Hays, Tremper Longman, and Joe Sprinkle. Explore the benefits of this approach to studying the Bible.

Rethinking David and Goliath identifies cultural and contextual nuances in 1 Samuel 17 and explores how they affect our interpretation of the text. This book examines David’s story through a broad lens of research—literary criticism, rhetorical criticism, communication theory, intercultural communication, Christian formation, education theory, and the Hebrew language. You will gain insight into these complex fields of scholarship through Eary’s years of curated research.
