“However, offices are not given by grace; they are attained by works.” (Page 45)

“The visionary, apostolic founders were generally replaced by administrators who, no matter how godly they might have been, typically saw their role as perpetuating the vision of the founder instead of casting new vision for the denomination. This is why I said that denominational leaders tend to focus on the present and draw from the past. When things slow down, they will frequently say, ‘We need to get back to our roots!’” (Page 16)

“I took a subject called ‘pneumatology,’ which is the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. But I was never taught how to tarry until I was endued with the filling and the power of the Holy Spirit, as were Jesus’ apostles in the first century. In other words, I knew the theology of the Holy Spirit, but I was virtually ignorant of the present-day operation of the Holy Spirit.” (Page 24)

“The gift of prophecy is the special ability that God gives to certain members of the Body of Christ to receive and communicate an immediate message of God to His people through a divinely-anointed utterance.” (Page 44)

“New apostolic churches are essentially driven by vision” (Page 15)

Peter Wagner is a standard bearer for the growing number of Christian leaders and churches that are moving with God beyond the drag of intellectualism. I pray that God will use this book to point the way for many more church leaders to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance beyond what they learned in seminary.

—Charles Kraft, professor of anthropology and intercultural communication, Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA

This book invites us to think profoundly and honestly about the Church’s need for power and how she can receive it. We are living in radical time, and perhaps only a radical commitment to the power of Christ will get the world’s attention.

—Jack Deere, president, Evangelical Foundation Ministries, Amarillo, TX

C. Peter Wagner holds graduate degrees in theology, missiology, and religion from Fuller Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, and the University of Southern California. He served as a field missionary in Bolivia for 16 years and taught on the faculty of the School of Intercultural Studies at Fuller Seminary for 30 years. The author of 70 books, Wagner ministers nationally and internationally with Global Spheres, Inc. from his home base in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
