Overview

Jesus’ followers had expected him to overthrow their oppressors. Roman officials tried to avoid ordering his crucifixion. When he died, the midday sun became dark for three hours and a huge curtain in the Jewish temple was torn in two. His body disappeared from his tomb, and then he appeared to his disciples. However, the most unusual aspect of Jesus’ death isn’t any of those things—but the fact that Jesus died for you. What does that mean? The most dominant figure in all history, a person who claimed to be God, died 2,000 years ago as an amazing act of love so that you could have peace with God.
