Digital Logos Edition
As there are currently quite a few Baptist creeds, Mullins' goal was not to add to that number but instead compile existing creeds into a lucid and simplified book that would be useful to laity. Baptist Beliefs gives a broad overview and outline of Baptist doctrine in just over one hundred comprehensive pages.
“Another quality of the Scriptures which fits them to serve as the source of light and truth in religion is certainty” (Page 11)
“The Bible was not meant to teach us ‘how the heavens go, but how to go to Heaven’” (Page 15)
“All doctrine before and after Christ must be seen in the light which shines from him if we are to understand it. Christ, then, is God’s message to us and we are to understand the whole Bible simply and solely in its relations to Jesus Christ, the Son of God and Savior of the world.” (Page 16)
“Behind this sufficiency and authoritativeness of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments is their inspiration” (Page 13)
“In consequence of the fall of man sin has become hereditary” (Page 24)
Edgar Young Mullins, who was perhaps the most pivotal figure in twentieth century Southern Baptist life, deserves notice.
