If the Pentecostal movement continues to impact this society, it will be because its ministers understand the vital role of preaching as the apostle Paul taught when he wrote that God “has in due time manifest His Word through preaching” Preaching is God’s idea, not man’s, and He has chosen to manifest His Word through this vehicle. We who are called to preach His word ought to endeavor to be the best preachers that we can possible be!
“Instead, this coming to the end of ourselves is a life of openness to the heart-deep dealings of the Lord who alone can reduce us and remake us.” (Page 31)
“Nothing has changed; this mandate continues to this day. The Lord still calls whom He wills to preach His gospel.” (Page 13)
“According to Acts 6:4, there were two areas upon which the apostles refused to allow any infringement: ‘We will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the Word’ (NKJV). Other leaders must be selected to assist in the management of the church. Prayer (intercession, supplication, giving of thanks) and ministry of the Word (preaching and teaching of the Scriptures) were the priorities of the first preachers. If we are to effectively lead the Church in the will of God there must be a return to these priorities today.” (Pages 13–14)
“Yet we must never forget that we exegete the text of Scripture in part by the way we live the text ourselves. We preach as much by lifestyle as by proclamation. In the words of Mother Teresa: ‘Just allow people to see Jesus in you; to see how you pray, to see how you lead a pure life, to see how you deal with your family, to see how much peace there is in your family. Then you can look straight into their eyes and say, ‘This is the way.’ You speak from life, you speak by experience.” (Page 37)
“This is the exact work of the preacher—to bring it all together. He must bridge the times, the seasons, the people, and do it in such a way that history is honored, truth is proposed, and the people of God are taught. From text to message to people—a tough but glorious task!” (Page 71)
