1 Peter prepares Christians for suffering by giving principles for living under duress. It enables Christians to face persecution by the grace of God (5:12). 2 Peter warns of apostasy (1:13-14; 2:1-3). It encourages Christians to remember the fundamentals (1:12-21). The main purpose is to help believers grow in grace to be established in the faith (3:18).
“Everyone in the brotherhood is not lovable. Some of them do not want to be loved. Whether they respond to our love is their business.” (1 Peter 2:17)
“life. If we fashion our lives according to fellowship with God, our lives will reflect his life.” (1 Peter 1:14)
“God will use us in ways beyond our background if we submit to him.” (1 Peter 1:1)
“God wants us to view trial from his vantage point. When we look at our problems from his viewpoint, they look insignificant. If we stand at the mouth of the Grand Canyon from the south rim it looks immense. We cannot see it all. However, if we fly over the canyon, from 30,000 feet it looks like a hole in the ground. The difference is the perspective from which we view it. Like viewing the Grand Canyon from the south rim, our problems look vast. When we look at those problems from God’s viewpoint, we put them in perspective.” (1 Peter 1:6)
“Have you put limitations around yourself? Have you put yourself in a box of your own perceptions? Let God stretch you beyond your boundaries. He may use you in a way beyond your imagination. If we step out of our comfort zone, it will demonstrate an act of trust in God’s provision for our lives.” (1 Peter 1:1)
