This book provides an exegetical-theological-rhetorical paradigm, “the Christ-oriented approach” (Lk 24:27, 44), that facilitates accuracy, effectiveness, and practicality in preaching the New Testament use of the Old. In providing a practical expository model, and sermon preparation/evaluation principles, this work moves beyond the level of theory into the realm of praxis, and will thus appeal to practitioners as well as to academics.
Kyoohan Lee’s scholarly study of the relationship between interpretation and preaching glories in the self-attesting Christ of Scripture. The theme of the centrality of Christ in the Bible is carefully developed in terms of sola Scriptura, the New Testament’s use of the Old Testament, and the question of the sensus plenior. Building on these hermeneutical insights, homiletical considerations are summarized and applied to the development and delivery of Christ-centered sermons. Lee’s monograph offers a substantial source of pastoral and theological scholarship that will challenge preachers to deepen their skills in the art of preaching Christ from every text in the word of God.
