Top Highlights

“The emphasis on the Lord God as Shepherd communicates his presence, care, nurture, comfort, protection, guidance, leadership, and provision. Any future use of the shepherding metaphor for those serving his flock must connect these characteristics to pastoral ministry.” (Page 21)

“pastoral ministry involves care, protection, provision, and nearness to the flock.” (Page 27)

“Inevitably, pastors have strengths in some areas and weaknesses in others. That’s why we must follow the pattern of plurality found in the NT church.” (Pages 31–32)

“The most important focus of pastoral ministry must be the pastor’s care for his own soul. With it he multiplies his pastoral effectiveness.” (Page 67)

“Busyness with ministry and soul care of others must never get in the way of personal soul care.” (Page 61)
