Overview

The journey to making cell groups work is unique for every church. No two churches start at the same place nor will they take the exact same steps. The journey is a creative process of following the Lord's direction, one that is similar to navigating a ship on the open seas. Making Cell Groups Work outlines eight stages of navigating the journey from no cell groups to an expanding cell group base. This Navigation Guide follows the organizational pattern established by Making Cell Groups Work, but it has a different purpose. It fleshes out the topics introduced in the first book and provides practical tools, team exercises, revealing self-assessments, useful forms, as well as helpful teaching outlines so church leaders can move through the eight stages of cell ministry development successfully. About the Authors For almost 20 years, M. Scott Boren has been working with churches to help them develop effective community through small groups that are on mission. This focus has required him to develop expertise in the areas of church leadership, church organization, change management, discipleship, and of course, small group dynamics and small group leadership. He has consulted with churches from 35 to 10,000 to help them develop and implement small groups that are on mission in their neighborhoods. Currently, he serves as one of the pastors at Woodland Hills Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota where he oversees the team that provides venues and environments to help move people from a traditional church experience into missional community. He is the author or co-author of eight different books, along with curriculum that has been developed as a part of his responsibilities as a pastor at Woodland Hills Church. William A. Beckham is a trusted advisor and member of the Encourager Church in Houston, Texas. He also leads conferences across the United States and around the world, teaching the concepts in his book The Second Reformation. For over 15 years he served as a Southern Baptist church planter in Thailand. Prior to that, he pastured three churches in East Texas. Joel Comiskey holds a Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary and is an internationally recognized cell church consultant. He has served as a missionary with the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Quito, Ecuador and is now the founding pastor of Wellspring, a small, group-based church in Southern California. Joel, the author of An Appointment with the King: Ideas for Jump-Starting Your Devotional Life, has written best-selling books on the worldwide cell group movement and teaches as adjunct professor at several theological seminaries. Dr. Ralph W. Neighbour, Jr. has been a pioneering pastor, writer, researcher and teacher for over 50 years. He has personally tested his methods in many churches, including those in Houston and Singapore. He has written over 30 books that are used worldwide. He has held numerous teaching positions in seminaries and has consulted with churches on every continent. He is currently Adjunct Professor at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and continues to consult with churches and to develop useful materials to equip every member for ministry. Randall G. Neighbour grew up in holistic cell groups as the son of Ralph Neighbor Jr. His first leadership opportunity was in high school in the 1970's, where he led a cell group. This first cell leadership experience was very fruitful—through the love and hard work of his group, six of his close friends dedicated their lives to Christ. Today, Randall is the President of TOUCH Outreach, and serves as a Lifegroup coach at the Houston Vineyard. He is the author of Community Life 101, Are You Fishing With A Net? and A Pocket Guide to Coaching Small Groups. Randall's writing style is that of a friend, sharing truths through real-life stories of working with people.
