Overview

Written over a 10 year span, this 25 volume is a collection of notes of sermons and prayers that he had preached through the entire Bible. This exposition of Scripture was collected over a thirty-three year period of which preached through the entire Bible seven times. Parker's purpose in creating the People's Bible, is simply pastoral. It aims to bring all readers under the moral sovereignty of the sacred book, so as to arm them against temptation, enrich them with solid comfort, and fortify them with the wisdom of God. About the Author Joseph Parker was one of England's most popular preachers. He was, for the most part, self-educated, but his gift in the pulpit soon raised him to leadership among the Congregationalists. His pulpit style was sometimes lively, imaginative, and intense. He was friend to both the common man and to those of immense wealth. He was uniquely gifted to relate the truth of the Gospel to both. He pastored the City Temple in London for 33 years. Parker was pre-eminently a preacher, and his published works are chiefly sermons and expositions, chief among them being City Temple Sermons (1869-1870) and The People's Bible, in 25 volumes. (1885-1895). Other volumes include the autobiographical Springdale Abbey (1869), The Inner Life of Christ (1881), Apostolic Life (1884), Tyne Chylde: My Life and Teaching (1883), A Preacher's Life
