Digital Logos Edition
In Threescore and Ten, Vance Havner looks back on his lifetime of devotion to the Lord, gathering his memories and impressions and making some penetrating observations along the way. The great evangelist recalls the simple joys of a country boyhood...the lively "old-time" revivals each summer...preaching for the first time at age twelve...the call to the itinerant ministry...marriage to Miss Sara Allred-lifetime companion and co-worker...over fifty years of preaching God's Word at church revivals, Bible conferences, youth rallies and other meetings all over the United States...and sprinkled throughout his recollections the reader will find spiritual and ethical truths, words of down-to-earth advice and admonition, homey stories and a touch of humor. From his vantage point of a lifetime of simple faith and dedication to the Lord, Vance Havner comments on some of the changes that have taken place since the days of the horse and buggy and urges every Christian to heed the unchanging message of the Bible. He emphasizes throughout Threescore and Ten that although times change God's Word remains the same, and His truths apply to every age. About the Author Vance Havner (1901-1986) began preaching as a young boy and continued in the work over the course of his life. Havner pastored small country churches, preached to large city churches, prepared sermons for countless preachers, and wrote over 35 books. In 1973, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association named Havner the "Preacher of the Year." Havner's unique sense of humor and his ability to phrase truths with brilliant poignancy make him one of the most endeared preachers of the 20th century.
