Overview

Tony Evans is one of the most influential church leaders of our time and has been studying and preaching the Gospel for over 50 years. He is senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, TX and founder of The Urban Alternative, a ministry which promotes a kingdom agenda philosophy designed to enable people to live all of life underneath the comprehensive rule of God.

The Tony Evans Bible Commentary includes an introduction to each Bible book followed by passage-by-passage exposition of the entire Bible by Dr. Tony Evans. In addition, there is a special front matter section with introductory resources. The insights in this commentary will help explain God’s Word in a fresh way. Applying these truths will empower readers to have transformed lives that then transfer the values of the kingdom of God to others.

The Tony Evans Bible Commentary features the highly readable, highly reliable text of the Christian Standard Bible® (CSB). The CSB stays as literal as possible to the Bible's original meaning without sacrificing clarity, making it easier to engage with Scripture's life-changing message and to share it with others.

Top Highlights

“When the foundation of the temple was laid, the people had a worship party. But, the singing and shouting with praise and thanksgiving to the Lord (3:11) was mixed with equally loud weeping from the older priests, Levites, and family leaders, who had seen the first temple (3:12)—Solomon’s temple that the Babylonians had destroyed. So, while it was a joy to be building God’s temple again, those who remembered what once had been knew it would not achieve its former glory.” (Page 454)

“Regardless, they shared his trade as tentmakers, worked together (18:3), and eventually became ministry partners” (Page 1098)

“Like David, we must recognize that we have one source. There are many resources—many channels God may use to provide and care for your physical well being—but you have only one source. And God never runs dry. That’s why David’s cup overflowed.” (Pages 519–520)

“Jesus began using parables to teach about the kingdom. A parable is a story used as an analogy to explain a spiritual truth.” (Page 887)

“There is only one King who reigns in power over the universe. God sits in judgment on kings and nations. God judged the unrighteousness of Nebuchadnezzar’s government because he sought to usurp the authority that belongs to God alone. And in the end, Nebuchadnezzar wound up making the very confession God decreed he would make—‘Heaven rules’ (4:34–37; see 4:26).” (Page 774)

Besides the commentary lots of good material on different subjects provided. This one is a blessing for anyone who studies the Word of God. Not only does he list the names used for God, He did also for Jesus and the Holy Spirit. With Bible references for each one. nice list to study and learn from. I have not seen a list of the names used for the Holy Spirit in my readings over the years. So that was a special bonus.

Excellent commentary! We have the leather-bound version but I wanted to have the digital version on Logos. This will make my research more at my fingertips and not having to wrestle the book-version from my wife...LOL! Thank you Dr. Evans!
