The Christian Counselor’s New Testament and Proverbs features Dr. Adams’ original translation of the Greek text to which he has added helpful notes and cross-references, which will be of help to the counselor. In the back, he has appended a section of helps which include counseling outlines, check-lists, a topical index, charts, and more. The Christian Counselor’s New Testament is designed as a working tool that may be used during counseling sessions. Every decision regarding content and format has been made on the basis of whether it would prove useful in doing the work of counseling. This is not a study Bible, although the student will find in it much that will enable them to do studies of various sorts. This resource contains the notes on the text.
“Every trial is both a test from God and a temptation from Satan. Here both perspectives are brought together as the Spirit and the devil appear in the event.” (Page 5)
“Cf. also v. 2). ‘Husbands of only one wife’ (i.e., at any one time)—this forbids polygamy in office bearers, whose lives must set an example; it does not mean married only once (gameo is not used). Polygamous converts would not be required to abandon wives, but they could not become officers in the church.” (Page 426)
“Temptation is not sin. Jesus had to think the thoughts suggested by Satan in order to reject them. When one mentally acquiesces in those thoughts, he sins. Temptation may be overcome by the use of specific biblical truths that set forth God’s alternatives (cf. vv. 4, 6, 10).” (Page 5)
