God gave man the breath of life, a soul and a spirit that allows the Holy Spirit to commune with man. Genesis 2:7 reads, "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living Soul." Man was created with both a physical body and a spiritual body. The spiritual body lives forever and is composed of both a soul and a spirit. At the center of the soul is the spirit that lives forever for the purpose of worshiping, praising, and thanking him for the gift of eternal life through his Son, Jesus Christ. Luke 1:46-47 reads, "And Mary said, 'My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior.'" Since the time Adam was created, God has been communicating with man in many different ways and through many different people and angels. Men and women have been given a physical body that is miraculous in many ways, but fragile and vulnerable to disease and sin. Our time here on earth is short and can end at any moment. We need to begin by listening to his messengers.
“Many people, Christians included, seem to think that God could do a better job staying in touch. Far from being disappointed with God’s ability to communicate, A. M. Deigloriam celebrates the power and effectiveness of God’s messengers to deliver God's message of love and mercy.”
—Doug Webster, professor, Beeson Divinity School
