Countless Americans suffer from chronic joylessness through meaningless work and the loss of significant human connection. Often called an age of despair, late modernity desperately needs joy, and although Christians are the ones who have access to it, many have tragically forgotten how to find it. Joy Renewed takes a hard look at what afflicts Western society, including Christians, and provides a reorientation of life that opens the heart to God's good design. Fischer and Kanana bring together truth from biblical narratives with glittering insights from the experience of East African suffering to dissect contemporary social ills and offer a layered prescription for rediscovering joy.
“Joy is not a common descriptor for human lives. But this loss
is not irreversible. In Joy Renewed, Benjamin Fischer and
Cedric Kanana reveal the individual steps that comprise the journey
to joy. I commend this book to everyone seeking to recover their
joy.”
—Todd Hunter, Anglican Bishop, author of Deep Peace:
Finding Calm in a World of Conflict and Anxiety
“The approach in this book is soundly biblical, and it is
also laced with practical examples, often from the personal
experiences of the authors. They carefully analyze what lies behind
contemporary attitudes in society, such as individualism, which act
as hindrances to experiencing joy. The result is a profoundly
enriching and interesting book on means to joy prescribed in the
Bible which have been tried, tested, and found to be true, and have
served God’s people for millennia.”
—Ajith Fernando, author of The Call to Joy and Pain
