Digital Logos Edition
Saul, the son of Kish from the tribe of Benjamin, was anointed by the prophet Samuel, following the popular demand for a king capable of freeing the people from the pressure of the surrounding nations, particularly the Philistines. He eventually routed these nations and established an Israelite regular army, raising national morale and laying the groundwork for consolidation of the tribes into one nation by his successor, David.
Here begins the story of the first royal kings of Israel. Saul was noble, David was courageous, and Solomon had much wisdom—all great kings for Israel. This volume gives a detailed cartographic portrayal of their history, from ca. 1035 B.C. until the division of the United Monarchy in ca. 928 B.C. The maps, accompanied by brief texts, illustrations, and photographs, vividly reveal the trials and tribulations, triumphs and defeats, of the original biblical dynasty.
