All God’s Children Search for Jesus

“The star of the King of Christmas! Where will we find him?”

Inspired by the story of the magi and Mary’s Magnificat and featuring a family prayer, The King of Christmas invites children and families to share the joy of searching for Jesus during Advent.

Join FatCat and the wise men as they follow the light of the Christmas star, journeying over sea and field, through market and temple, to find the King of Christmas. In each place they look, a new friend joins their search.

The journey doesn’t end at the manger. Once the magi and their lively cast of friends and friendly beasts find Jesus at the nativity scene, they ask where else he can be found. On the cross? In the tomb?

And where do we find the King of Christmas today? In his word, where he promises to be found. Wherever his name and word are, you will find him too. Merry Christmas to all God’s children!

Praise for The King of Christmas

Christmas is a great time for children to learn the gospel story of who Jesus is. This vibrant book invites parents to bring their children along on the journey to find the true king of Christmas, the Messiah, the Christ. And it reminds us that he is near, even in the word that is in our ears when we learn the story.

—Phillip Cary

The excitement and anticipation over the King of Christmas builds with each page! I love this treatment of the Christmas story, with its colorful illustrations and interactive catechism that invite the whole family to consider the miracle of Immanuel, God with us.

—Rachel Joy Welcher

The job of a Christian parent and a Christian minister is the same as that of John the Baptist. Our job is to point. We must point our kids away from a consumeristic and power-hungry world. Away from their own greedy and selfish hearts. Our job is to point them to Jesus where he is present by his Word and with his people. With a simple look-and-find plot that follows the magi (and Fat Cat) as they journey to find the Savior, The King of Christmas does just that. Kids will see where the Savior cannot be found—in rich palaces or in military might—and where he is most clearly seen—at the cross. Pick up this great resource to read with your preschool children this Christmas.

—Jared Kennedy

What Is “FatCat?”

How can anyone, no matter how young or old, grasp the message of the Bible? The church’s answer has always been the catechism: The Apostles' Creed, the Lord's Prayer, and the Ten Commandments.

The catechism teaches us what the Bible teaches us: our faith. The catechism is “fat,” bursting at the seams with meaning and challenge. FatCat is our way of making the catechism approachable, bringing theology to readers of all ages.

Praise for the FatCat Books

The FatCat series gives children a vision of the Bible’s ethic (in the Ten Commandments), its confession (as summarized in the Apostles’ Creed), and its devotional life (given to us in the Lord’s Prayer). This ancient-but-new set of lenses, what the church has called the ‘rule of faith,’ will equip your kids for a lifelong Christian journey.

—Jared Kennedy, editor at The Gospel Coalition; author of books for children and families, including Faith-Builder Catechism and The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible

Where can you find Jesus? With The King of Christmas, your children can search for the Savior. Written by Todd R. Hains, this book helps you find the King of Christmas in his word. I love this book because I can show that the Christmas story does not end in the manger. It carries all the way through the cross and to our lives today. My kids love Lexham Press’ FatCat Books because they can point out where the FatCat is hiding in every picture. Jesus is Alive With beautiful, vibrant illustrations by Natasha Kennedy, this book takes you through biblical scenes — encountering angels, kings, ordinary people, and Jesus. With a special Christmas prayer and a note to parents at the end, you can continue to point your children to Jesus with the Scripture passages referenced. Spend time with your children this Christmas season to show them that Jesus is alive for you to find him wherever his word and name are! I received a media copy of The King of Christmas and this is my honest review.
