Solomon J. Gamertsfelder graduated from then North-Western College in 1871 and began a career in ministry. He served fourteen years a parish pastor in his home state of Ohio, and was also the Assistant Editor of The Evangelical Messenger, the national newspaper for the Evangelical Association. Rev. Gamertsfelder came to the Union Biblical Institute in 1895 and remained there until his retirement in 1923. In 1912, following the Institute’s name change to the Evangelical Theological Seminary, the position of President was created (superseding an absentee bishop role of Principal) and Rev. Gamertsfelder was named the first President.

SJ Gamertsfelder is my wife's great grandfather. I have the hard copy of this book and have used it for devotional reading for close to 50 years. I also know the backstory of the work and challenge of this work being originally published, as well as the story of this man's dedicated life and ministry. He is for me one of the great evangelical leaders of the past that deserve to be remembered. I am excited to be able to include his theology as a part of my Logos library where I can blend it into my searches and studies.
