In every era the church needs revival—certainly today as much as ever. And in the heart of every committed Christian there is the longing for personal revival—to know the quality and depths of spiritual reality, and the presence of God in one's personal life.

This was the deepest desire of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, one of the great twentieth-century Bible expositors. It was also the purpose behind this series of messages which were first given on the 100th anniversary of the Great Revival which started in Wales, and swept across England and throughout the United States and to the far corners of the world. As Dr. Lloyd-Jones recognized, it is a rare time in the history of the church when there is a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit--and a time of special interest of every Christian who longs for revival today.

I do not think that our age has seen any more powerful or profound treatment of revival than this book.

Theology isn’t just for scholars—it is for everyone. For that reason Martyn Lloyd-Jones gave a series of lectures at Westminster Chapel to help ordinary people understand and apply theology to their own lives. This book is the fruit of those lectures.

Previously published in three separate volumes, they are now combined into one work—a complete systematic Christian theology. Among others, the book covers Christian beliefs about Scripture, the attributes of God, the life and work of Jesus, the Fall, redemption, the person and work of the Holy Spirit, the nature of the church, and last things. The book is written in clear language and contains guidance for application. Anyone who wishes to learn more about the great doctrines of the Bible but doesn’t want to wade through lengthy academic works should read this book.

This first volume, God the Father, God the Son focuses on the very character of God and the life and work of his Son, including his eternal decrees, his attributes, original sin, redemption, the covenant of grace, and the Incarnation. God the Father, God the Son will help you to truly know God and his Word better. And in that pursuit, you can never go wrong. Because someday, somewhere, you will need to know—and share—the Truth with someone else.

This second volume, God the Holy Spirit explores in detail the person and vital work of the Holy Spirit. He is a divine and mighty power who is active in conversion, redemption, regeneration, sanctification, and the assurance of salvation. Martyn Lloyd-Jones also considers within these pages Pentecost, baptism of the Spirit, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit--all to give you a better understanding of this least-known member of the Trinity.

This third volume, The Church and the Last Things explores in detail two doctrines that bear great impact on your today and all your tomorrows: the nature of the church, and the doctrine of the last things. Here is perspective on the Bible's various references to the church, plus a study of unity, baptism, church government, and the sacraments—all according to Scripture. Martyn Lloyd-Jones also carefully considers the various views regarding Christ's second coming, what God's Word communicates about the last days, and the meaning of Jesus' return for ourselves as well as the world. It's important reading, not just for admirers of this great preacher, but for Christians everywhere.

Studies in the Book of Acts: Authentic Christianity

  • Author: Martyn Lloyd-Jones
  • Publisher: Crossway Books
  • Publication Date: 2000
  • Pages: 304

Sample Pages: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4

Within these pages Martyn Lloyd-Jones challenges you to think through exactly what you believe Christianity to be and the role it has in your life. He believes that today's understanding of Christianity, even as defined by many who consider themselves to be its followers, is in complete contrast to what is taught in the Bible. Christianity is not a list of things for you to do, but rather, your only true hope, for it tells what Jesus came to do for you.

Studies in the Book of Acts: Courageous Christianity

  • Author: Martyn Lloyd-Jones
  • Publisher: Crossway Books
  • Publication Date: 2001
  • Pages: 304

Sample Pages: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4

Martyn Lloyd-Jones demonstrates how the characteristics of the first persecution and unbelief account precisely for the rejection that so marks our present time. Through these powerful sermons on Acts 4 and 5, you will see the utter hopelessness and tragedy of a world desperately in trouble, yet refusing the one truth that can save it. And with the greater understanding that you'll gain, you'll be able to speak directly to peoples' need as you courageously share the message of Christianity.

Studies in the Book of Acts: Victorious Christianity

Sample Pages: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4

In this third volume of the Studies in the Book of Acts series, Martyn Lloyd-Jones explores the growth of the church in Acts 5:17–6:9. Peter and the apostles’ speech to the Sanhedrin reveals the true nature of the Christian church and the Christian message. The apostles’ choice to concentrate on preaching and prayer shows the primary purpose of the church. Stephen’s bold confrontation with the Jews of the Dispersion testifies to the empowering, directing Spirit.

Studies in the Book of Acts: Glorious Christianity

  • Author: Martyn Lloyd-Jones
  • Publisher: Crossway Books
  • Publication Date: 2004
  • Pages: 288

Sample Pages: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4

In the fourth volume of Studies in the Book of Acts, Martyn Lloyd-Jones diagnoses the objections that an unbelieving world has to Christianity. He examines Stephen’s speech to the Sanhedrin in Acts 7 to uncover the reason why the Jewish leaders during the early days of the church were so outraged by what the apostles said and were so quick to persecute and silence them. It is the same reason why nonbelievers today reject the truth: sin. Sin infects peoples’ minds, hearts, and spirits, blinding them to the truth of Christianity.

Triumphant Christianity

  • Author: Martyn Lloyd-Jones
  • Series: Studies in the Book of Acts

  • Publication Date: 2006
  • Pages: 256

Sample Pages: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7

In the fifth volume in his series on Acts, Lloyd-Jones demonstrates that without the miraculous, supernatural power of the Holy Spirit, there can be no triumph in the Christian life. He examines the faulty attitude of Christians both in Stephen's day as well as ours from the perspective given in the book of Acts. Lloyd-Jones exposes the problematic spirit within Christians today and provides a strongly biblical response to the ever more prevalent unbelief we see around us.

Compelling Christianity

Sample Pages: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7

In the sixth and final volume of Studies in the Book of Acts, Lloyd-Jones works from this essential truth, reminding us that there are compelling and vital reasons to consider Christianity even beyond the historical record. Exploring the many issues that lie at the heart of the Gospel, such as the empowering work of the Holy Spirit and the all-encompassing purpose of Christ’s death, Lloyd Jones also speaks to the cultural deceptions that claim Christianity is nothing more than “a personal matter” or “just another teaching.”

The Doctor, as Lloyd-Jones was fondly called always writes clearly. You never read any book of his and wonder what it was really all about when you are finished. A medical doctor, he applied his diagnostician's methods to the texts that he studied. I have found his works to be among the best of the best. It is my view that no one can go wrong using his material to help them understand and apply Scripture to the life of an individual or as the case may indicate, to the health of the church. I wouldn't even try to say which book or series is best. They are all exceptional books by an exceptional man.
