John Wycliffe (also spelled Wyclif, Wycliff, or Wicliffe) was an English scholar, theologian, philosopher, preacher, and Bible translator. An early dissident of the Roman Catholic Church, Wycliffe’s works argued for the Scriptures as the sole authority for doctrine and ecclesial polity. About John Wycliffe

John Wycliffe (1324-1384), also spelled Wyclif, lived almost 200 years before the Reformation, but his beliefs and teachings closely match those of Luther, Calvin and other Reformers. As a man ahead of his time, historians have called Wycliffe the Morning star of the Reformation.
