The apostle Paul wrote his most personal letter while abused and abandoned in a Roman prison. He wrote to believers who lived in the shadow of the Roman tyrant, Nero. And yet this letter, Philippians, is the most joy-filled epistle in the Bible.

Weaving together modern stories and historical detail, Dr. David Jeremiah explores Philippians verse by verse, showing us what it means to be joyful in spite of circumstances. Whatever you are facing today, Count It All Joy will inspire you to find the joy that Jesus promises.

Top Highlights

“God often has hidden purposes in the adversity He allows.” (source)

“The term saints means ‘set apart ones.’ Whenever the word saint appears in the Bible, it is almost always in the plural form. This is a gentle reminder to us that saints are not meant for isolation but for community.” (source)

“Second, Paul was not only sustained by the prayers of his friends but was also encouraged by the provision of the Holy Spirit.” (source)

“The prisons of our lives can often become places of great opportunity and ministry. Charles Colson” (source)

“It doesn’t take much wisdom to select the good instead of the bad, but choosing between the better and the best requires that we know how to test or critique each choice. Our growth in grace is indicated by the discrimination that rules our lives. As we grow, we begin to reject habits and practices we once approved, because we have learned to see beyond the obvious to the significant.” (source)

Very pastoral and well-written. Jeremiah communicates clearly and concisely, with many helpful illustrations. Considering that it is written for a popular audience, I have nevertheless found its exegetical conclusions to be spot on!

Count It All Joy is a re-published title from Dr. David Jeremiah's 1992 book, "Turning Toward Joy". The book is replete with anecdotes and quotations. The author appreciates good writing so much so that he invites other authors to describe the message he communicates. This teaching on Philippians is good and solid, not straying towards newer non-traditional views of Philippians. It is a good book for those who like pages of anecdotes and quotations but there are other books on Philippians that is better for bible study (by David Jeremiah), small groups (Be Joyful by Warren Wiersbe) or for personal edification (by D. A. Carson).
