Overview

The Apologetics Study Bible is a unique resource designed to help people answer important and life-shaping questions. It provides this wealth of knowledge in one place enabling readers to know the reasons and evidences for the Christian hope and to articulate those reasons to others asking big questions.

Human beings are the only creatures who ask questions. Major questions.

  • Can I know that God exists?
  • Am I the product of a blind evolutionary process or was I created by God?
  • How strong is the evidence for Jesus’ resurrection?
  • Is the Bible reliable and true?
  • Do I have a destiny beyond my life on earth?
  • Can evil be reconciled with belief in God who is both all-powerful and all-loving?

Crafted by real people like you who have wrestled with the same questions and doubts you are facing now, the material in The Apologetics Study Bible features some of the leading thinkers of the twenty-first century, including Craig Blomberg, Darrel Bock, Charles Colson, Paul Copan, William Lane Craig, William Dembski, John Frame, Norman L. Geisler, Gary Habermas, Hank Hanegraaff, Philip E. Johnson, Walt Kaiser, Al Mohler, John Warwick Montgomery, J. P. Moreland, Thomas Schreiner, Ravi Zacharias, and many more.

Please note: The Apologetics Study Bible Notes does not contain the Bible text, but includes the study notes, articles, and all of the other great features found in the equivalent print version. For the Holman Christian Standard Bible text and study notes, purchase the Apologetics Study Bible.

“The greatest weakness of the theory of evolution is that science has not discovered a process that can create all the necessary information, which can be likened to the software that directs a computer. Without such a demonstrated creative process, evolution is merely a story, because its supposed mechanism can neither be duplicated in a laboratory nor observed in nature.” (Pages 7–8)

“It is noteworthy that in no other religious writings in the world do we find any specific predictive prophecies like we find in the Scripture. You will find no predictive prophecies whatsoever in the writings of Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed, Lao-Tse, or Hinduism. Yet in the Scripture there are well over two thousand prophecies, most of which have already been fulfilled.” (Page xxix)

“The only mechanism the evolutionists have is a combination of random variation and natural selection, illustrated by the survival of the insects that happened to be resistant to an insecticide. This Darwinian mechanism has never been shown to be capable of creating new genetic information or new complex body parts such as wings, eyes, or brains. Without a mechanism that can be demonstrated to be capable of the necessary creation, the theory of evolution is just a fantasy with no real scientific basis.” (Page 8)

“By inerrancy, we mean that when all the facts are known, the Bible—in its original manuscripts and properly interpreted—will be shown to be true and never false in all that it affirms, whether related to doctrine, ethics, or the social, physical, or life sciences.” (Page 1412)

For a reference about apologetics, this is pretty wishy washy on many issues.

Ane excellent apologetics resource with useful articles that tell how to present biblical positions in an open, effective, culturally engaging way. I keep discovering new gems and think everyone should have this resource.

I have the paper version of the Apologetics Study Bible paired with the HCSB, as well as this digital version. The HCSB was a groundbreaking translation with terms that draw my attention to passages I would normally only half-understand. I would read the HCSB and really start to understand God's working and connect with the "weirdness" of the spiritual world, but the Apologetics notes consistently obscured the majesty and power of God by dismissing the extraordinary and replacing it with lifeless miracle-free "normalized" explanations. It is primarily because of this resource that I realize that "arguing" apologetics is the wrong approach. At best, it promotes an argumentative and closed-minded attitude rather than compassionate and responsive dialogue. At worst, it weakens the impact of the majesty of God on both parties by peddling a sterilized "user-friendly" gospel where the only mystery left is the resurrection (that apologists must grudgingly accept as unexplainable to be called a minimal Christian).

I have this bible in print and LOOOOVE it. Love the articles, the footnotes, everything. I think there is another version of this on Logos which I bought for Logos paired with the the CSB (newer version I think). I haven't seen enough of it to be sure, but I already copied an article out of it to share that was the same. Excellent!

While I have not read the entire book, I have referenced it several times and have come away very impressed with the degree of insight and knowledge of the authors in tackling some very difficult passages.

The Apologetics Study Bible is a great introductory resource for those wanting to learn how to defend their faith. However, I wish it had taken the time to go a little deeper into some of the "hot button" issues.
