“This bracketing of a poem by beginning and ending it with a similar word, phrase, or clause is a poetic device called inclusio (sometimes called inclusion).” (Page 19)
“Another element of Hebrew poetry is its use of vivid imagery.” (Page 18)
“Instead, Job teaches us two important things: (1) We may never know the answer to the question ‘Why?’ (2) Like Job, we must choose either to turn away from God or to press toward Him. Job counsels us to press into God, not after our doubt and anger pass, but in the midst of suffering, with all of our questions and doubts still on our lips. In the end, we are offered only what Job was offered—God himself, with all His compassion and mystery.” (Page 47)
“Wisdom speaks of the natural world and of things anyone can observe and find to be true and does not require special revelation to be understood.” (Page 26)
“Third, wisdom writings emphasize the world’s importance by assuming that human beings have primary responsibility for their own destinies.” (Page 29)
