Overview

Tabletalk magazine was formed in 1977 to provide a substantive study tool for believers. Though its format has changed over the years, Tabletalk continues to challenge and encourage readers to dig deeper into the Word of God in order that their lives may be transformed through the renewing of their minds (Rom. 12:1–2). Daily Bible studies are the method for taking readers through the Bible, while theological articles by R. C. Sproul and other noted scholars address a particular theme each month.

Over the years, Tabletalk has been recognized for its excellence through several awards. Today, people all over the world read Tabletalk on a daily basis. The magazine is regularly found in seminary libraries and churches throughout the country.

Each month, more than 200,000 readers turn to Tabletalk for:

  • Friendly, approachable, and convenient—Readers find Tabletalk approachable and inviting, with many saying it’s like having coffee each morning with their favorite teachers.

Month by month, Tabletalk represents an oasis in a desert of false spirituality, mindless Christianity, and vapid conviction. Tabletalk represents theological rigor, biblical Christianity, and authentic Christian devotion. It is an antidote to the world of superficial Christianity. Read it and grow.

Tabletalk Magazine, February 2013: Union with Christ

The February 2013 issue of Tabletalk features articles examining the nature of the union shared by the communion of saints with her Savior, Jesus Christ. The Westminster Larger Catechism states that “the communion in grace which the members of the invisible church have with Christ, is their partaking of the virtue of his mediation, in their justification, adoption, sanctification, and: Whatever else, in this life, manifests their union with him” (Q&A 69). This issue seeks to unpack this definition by addressing various aspects of our union with Christ and illuminating the consequences that flow from it.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Sinclair Ferguson, John V. Fesko, Joel R. Beeke, Ken Jones, R. C. Sproul Jr., Dan Cruver, Joseph Pipa, Jim Coffield, and Michael Horton.

Tabletalk Magazine, January 2013: The Lost Virtues of Listening, Meditating, and Thinking

The January 2013 issue of Tabletalk features articles examining the biblical call to Christians to develop and exercise the skills of listening well, meditating deeply, and thinking carefully in every area of life. These virtues have been increasingly ignored over the past few decades, particularly as our culture strives to increase our distraction. The Word of God, most notably the book of Proverbs, exhorts God’s people to cultivate the disciplines of deliberate and careful listening, meditating, and thinking, beginning with his Word and applying these virtues in the family, the church, and the world.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Eric Watkins, Tedd Tripp, Jonathan Leeman, Gene Edward Veith, Matthew Miller, R. C. Sproul Jr., Gerrit Scott Dawson, Douglas F. Kelly, Justin Taylor, and D. A. Carson.

Tabletalk Magazine, December 2012: The Prodigal Son

The December 2012 issue of Tabletalk features articles examining the parable of the prodigal son. A rich and complex parable, the prodigal son addresses the elements of sin, forgiveness, love, and much more. While Jesus addressed the context in which he lived through this parable and the others recorded in Luke 15, its meaning and importance transcend his generation and apply to us today. The articles addressing the main characters of the narrative should treat each character as a sermon, demonstrating the theology of each individual character and how each one informs our Christian life.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Thomas Schreiner, David Murray, John Sartelle, Allan Murray, Scotty Smith, R. C. Sproul Jr., Iain Campbell, David Mathis, Brian Tallman, and T. D. Alexander.

Tabletalk Magazine, November 2012: The Five Solas

The November 2012 issue of Tabletalk features articles examining the five solas of the Protestant Reformation in the sixteenth century. Formulated by the reformers in response to the abuses and errors of the Roman Catholic Church, the five solas articulate the fundamental tenets of the Christian faith. This issue will explore each sola individually, with the contributors explaining the traditional Reformed view on these pillars of doctine integreal to the faith, life, and practice of the body of Christ.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Michael J. Kruger, Guy P. Waters, J. V. Fesko, Joel R. Beeke, John Piper, R. C. Sproul Jr., Bob Kauflin, Geoffrey Thomas, Chris Larson, and Conrad Mbewe.

Tabletalk Magazine, October 2012: The Church and Israel

This issue explores the various historical positions regarding this matter, and seek to help readers understand the composition and nature of the “called out ones,” from the covenant of works in Adam all the way through the manifestations of the covenant of grace in redemptive history. Further, it pays special attention to how the nation of Israel, instituted at Sinai, factors into God’s dynamic plan of salvation.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Cornelis P. Venema, Iain M. Duguid, Ketih A. Mathison, John Starke, Jon Bloom, Barnabas Piper, R. C. Sproul Jr., Russell D. Moore, and Andrew Peterson.

Tabletalk Magazine, September 2012: The 12th Century

The September 2012 issue of Tabletalk features articles examining the twelfth century as it relates to the church and its constituents. The church witnessed a surprising number of developments in the twelfth century, both within its own walls and without. From the rise of Islam throughout the Western world to the influx of heresies in continental Europe, the twelfth century proved a dynamic time of change. Although many different individuals, such as Peter Abeland and Bernard of Clairvaux, helped produce these changes, they all contributed to the momentum in the church that led to the Reformation.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Nicholas R. Needham, Gregg R. Allison, W. Andrew Hoffecker, Stephen J. Nichols, W. Robert Godfrey, Erik Raymond, R. C. Sproul Jr., Eric J. Alexander, Anthony T. Selvaggio, Sarah Pulliam Bailey, and Carl Trueman.

Tabletalk Magazine, August 2012: Eastern Spirituality

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Eric Alexander, Voddie Baucham, Winfried Corduan, Michael Gleghorn, Dan Iverson, Peter Jones, R. C. Sproul Jr., and J. Nelson Jennings.

Tabletalk Magazine, July 2012: Drawing the Line: Why Doctrine Matters

The July 2012 issue of Tabletalk tackles the questions of why sound biblical doctrine matters, why we can’t compromise, how we determine our doctrinal boundaries, and how Christians can avoid succumbing to the temptation of wavering. In this technological era, anybody has the ability to disseminate their beliefs about critical religious doctrine through numerous modes of media. Further, Western culture vehemently affirms the validity and veracity of each stance. Yet, the Word of God teaches differently. This issue examines the importance of maintaining and guarding doctrinal integrity for the sake of the gospel.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Tom Ascol, R. Scott Clark, Kevin DeYoung, Dan Dumas, Sean M. Lucas, Keith Mathison, Star Meade, Andrew Naselli, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Carl Trueman.

The June 2012 issue of Tabletalk features articles examining the theology of evangelism. While most of us are familiar with the call to evangelism given by Jesus in the Great Commission, many of us either don’t know or we misunderstand the meaning and importance of evangelism in the Christian life. This issue seeks to unfold the fullness of evangelism, the means by which God, in his sovereignty, calls sinners from darkness into the light of his grace.

Contributors include Robert Godfrey, Paul Helm, Steven Lawson, John MacArthur, Conrad Mbewe, Will Metzger, Scott Oliphint, R. C. Sproul Jr., R. C. Sproul, and Jared Wilson.

John Newton’s letter “On Controversy” provides a launching pad into the discussion, and the core of this issue extracts, explains, and applies the three major sections of the letter that he wrote to a minister preparing to engage another minister regarding orthodoxy. Yet the truth of Christian love as laid out in 1 Corinthians 13 reaches far beyond these settings.

Tabletalk Magazine, May 2008: The Seven Deadly Sins and Heavenly Virtues

What became crystallized as the seven deadly sins and the seven contrary or heavenly virtues does not appear as such in the Bible, although the Old and the New Testaments identify attitudes and behaviors that violate or uphold the principles of a righteous life. Theologians in the early church often compiled lists of the most serious sins as they attempted to instruct monks, priests, and laity on living a virtuous life. From this point onward through to the Middle Ages the seven deadly sins and their punishments offered a striking set of cautions, while the seven heavenly virtues illumined the righteous path. The May 2008 issue of Tabletalk intends to employ this ancient guide as a means to urge its readers on toward holiness.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Thabiti M. Anyabwile, Robert W. Carver, Chris Donato, Ron Gleason, George Grant, Ken Jones, Jonathan Leeman, Keith A. Mathison, Robert S. Rayburn, Carol J. Ruvolo, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, April 2008: The Three Forms of Unity

The Three Forms of Unity are the historic creeds of the Reformed churches developed during the sixteenth century Protestant Reformation. These are especially associated with those of the Dutch Reformed tradition, and comprise the theme of the April 2008 issue of Tabletalk. In an effort to help our readers learn more about these creeds, this issue will focus on the historical occasions and main point and purpose of each of the three forms. This issue must not, however, read like a scholarly treatise on historical theology. While we do wish to heighten the church’s awareness on these important creeds, we desire to do it through a careful, yet approachable, analysis of the Three Forms as well as to encourage believers to incorporate them into their life and worship.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Lyle D. Bierma, R. Scott Clark, Joshua Harris, Keith A. Mathison, Richard D. Phillips, Kim Riddlebarger, R. C. Sproul Jr., Gene Edward Veith, and Cornelis P. Venema.

Tabletalk Magazine, March 2008: Darkness before the Dawn

Exhaustion. Lost ambition. Difficulty sleeping and concentrating. Anxious worrying. Irritability. These are all marks of what is commonly called depression. And depression is no less a spiritual matter than physical. There is hope and there is help—resting on the promises of God in Christ Jesus. For this reason, the March 2008 issue of Tabletalk focuses on spiritual depression—its, nature, causes, and cure. Our hope is to provide a brief overview of spiritual depression while also providing helpful suggestions for starting the journey out of it. Getting to the heart of what spiritual depression is, Tabletalk intends to guide its readers through a process of dealing with spiritual depression biblically and effectively.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Jay Adams, Mark Dever, Elyse Fitzpatrick, Richard L. Ganz, Keith A. Mathison, R. C. Sproul Jr.Derek Thomas, Gene Edward Veith, and Edward T. Welch.

Tabletalk Magazine, February 2008: The Prophetic Books of the Old Testament

The prophetic literature of the Old Testament remains the most disputed over, if not the most widely misunderstood, portion of Scripture. This is the theme of the February 2008 issue of Tabletalk. In an effort to help our readers learn how to better read the prophets, this issue will attempt to focus on the main point and purpose of each prophetic era as integral to the Christian’s understanding of God’s redemptive plan. This issue is not, however, intended to be a treatise on biblical literature. While we do wish to heighten the church’s awareness on how to read such texts, we desire to do it through a careful, yet approachable, analysis of how new covenant believers may interpret, use, and respond to the prophetic books of sacred writ.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Bryan D. Estelle, Steve Kreloff, Keith A. Mathison, R. Albert Mohler Jr., Alec Motyer, O. Palmer Robertson, John Sartelle, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, January 2008: C. S. Lewis

The appeal of C. S. Lewis’ writings continues to be the way in which Lewis combined reason and imagination. He argued that “Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and, if true, of infinite importance. The one thing it cannot be is moderately important.” Whether in the realm of reason or imagination, in personal or public life, Lewis maintained, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen—not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” Our January 2008 biography issue this year covers the life and ministry of C. S. Lewis. Our hope for Tabletalk readers is not simply that they would learn a few facts about this man; rather, it is our sincere desire to remind Christians of Lewis’ life and works so that they might be challenged by his passionate service to God.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Alistair Begg, Sinclair B. Ferguson, Michael S. Horton, Keith A. Mathison, Roger Nicole, Harry L. Reeder III, Leland Ryken, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, September 2007: Integrity: In Word and Deed

The September 2007 issue of Tabletalk magazine examines the issue of integrity and how the church is called to maintain biblical integrity by being separate, called-out, a light to the world.

Tabletalk Magazine, August 2007: Conflict in the East

Upon entering a discussion of the seventh century, one often finds little with which he is familiar. Yet despite such unfamiliarity, the work of God through the church of Christ endured—even through times of religious and political upheaval. For this reason, the theme of the August 2007 issue of Tabletalk focuses on the seventh century. While by no means intended to provide a complete history of this century, Tabletalk aims to present several of its highlights by exploring its historical and theological ramifications.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Patrick Needham, Abdul Saleeb, Patrick Sookhdeo, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, July 2007: Angels, Demons, and Spiritual Warfare

The spiritual realm and a few of its inhabitants—angels and demons—are portrayed and discussed everywhere—from statues and paintings to poems and songs to the Internet. But are they understood correctly? With all the attention the spiritual world receives, Christians are bound to get confused between what is often assumed to be “common knowledge” about the spiritual realm and how the Word of God actually portrays it. For this reason, the July 2007 edition of Tabletalk seeks to challenge many of the modern myths regarding this other-worldly reality by offering a biblical view of the spiritual realm.

Contributors include R.C. Sproul along with John Blanchard, Stanley D. Gale, Phil Johnson, John Piper, R.C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, June 2007: The Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer is used to justify all sorts of methods and styles of prayer. One way to avoid the risk of shaping this portion of Scripture into whatever we see fit is by applying sound exegesis that rests upon the social and grammatical context of the New Testament. This the Reformers did with all their might, and we will seek to rely on our forefathers in this matter. Evangelicals have largely left this accountability behind, and thus serious confusion abounds regarding this prayer. For this reason, the June 2007 edition of Tabletalk is concerned with the Pater Noster, the Lord’s Prayer, and it will serve to exhort Christians to understand it in its historical setting, out of which its devotional application will naturally flow.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Steven J. Lawson, Keith A. Mathison, Philip Graham Ryken, R. C. Sproul Jr., Gene Edward Veith, and Danny Wuerffel.

Tabletalk Magazine, May 2007: 30th Anniversary

Tabletalk Magazine, April 2007: Grief

Grief is a natural and inevitable part of life. We usually encounter it whenever some important part of our life is lost or taken away. It is especially poignant when someone we love dies. Though it will never be a pleasant experience, grief can be rightfully and wrongfully handled. As Christians, we are not callous to our own and others’ grief simply because we have faith in the promise that a better day is coming. We are called to empathize, listen, and minister to each other during these most difficult times. For this reason, the April 2007 edition of Tabletalk focuses on grief and how we Christians are to respond to it. This issue will serve to help Christians better understand the nature of grief as well as become better equipped to manage it.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Joel Beeke, Anthony Carter, Jim Coffield, Archie Parrish, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, March 2007: Adoption: Reflecting the Grace of God

The family unit was instituted by God during the primeval days of Adam and Eve. The household in ancient times would have consisted of not just immediate members but relatives, servants, and even friends, depending on economic resources. Familial imagery is also employed in Scripture to describe those who are the people of the one, true God. They are all assumed to share in the life of the local church—from worship to witness to discipline. Yet, serious confusion abounds regarding this aspect of God’s salvation. For this reason, the March 2007 edition of Tabletalk is concerned with the family of the Lord, and it will serve to exhort Christians to understand their place in the kingdom as children of the living God.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Greg Baiiley, Iain Duguid, Ken Jones, Wynn Kenyon, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, February 2007: The Wisdom Books of the Old Testament

The wisdom literature of the Hebrew canon remains the most liturgically usable, if not the most widely misunderstood, portion of Scripture. This is the theme of the February 2007 Tabletalk. In an effort to help our readers learn how to better read this literature, this issue will attempt to focus on the main point and purpose of each book as integral to the canon as well as natural outflows of the Pentateuch and history books. This issue is not, however, intended to be a treatise on biblical literature. While we do wish to heighten the church’s awareness on how to read such texts, we desire to do it through a careful, yet approachable, analysis of how new covenant believers may interpret, use, and respond to the wisdom books of Sacred Writ.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Jay Adams, Robert Rothwell, Harry L. Reeder, Benjamin Shaw, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, January 2007: The Mortification of Sin

We know that the one who has died in Christ has been set free from the old master, sin (Romans 6:7). Nonetheless, we battle against the flesh, and our new master calls us to put to death the sin that lurks deep within us. Perfectionism is not an option, for no portion of Scripture teaches that we can become sinless before our glorification. Neither is carnal Christianity an option. Jesus and his apostles everywhere assume that the grace of God does not leave people where it finds them; rather, the Spirit works in us, and we along with him, to mortify our sin and sanctify our lives. This January 2007 issue of Tabletalk aims to encourage our readers to take up the charge to put to death those base, sinful desires of the heart (Colossians 3:5).

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Sinclair B. Ferguson, Kris Lundgaard, Joseph A. Pipa Jr., R. C. Sproul Jr., Gene Edward Veith, and Eric B. Watkins.

Tabletalk Magazine, December 2006: The Freedom of Forgiveness

One day, Peter approached Jesus and asked him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” To which He responded, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:21–22). In that day, many teachers recommended not more than three times, so Peter might have thought he was being generous. But Jesus’ answer does away with all limits—such is the nature of God’s free forgiveness. Too often in churches today we are more concerned with retribution than wholesale forgiveness, as one look at the fragmented church will show. For this reason, the December 2006 edition of Tabletalk is concerned with forgiveness as a necessary component of healthy church life. This issue will serve to exhort Christians to be as free to forgive as God is with us.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Rich Ganz, Rod Mays, Joseph V. Novenson, Burk Parsons, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, November 2006: The Lord’s Supper

The theme of the November 2006 issue of Tabletalk is the Lord’s Supper. In Geneva, John Calvin instructed ministers to take great care when administering this sacrament. They were to preach that “although we see only bread and wine, let us not doubt that . . . Jesus is our heavenly bread, to feed and nourish us unto life eternal.” In many evangelical churches today, the Lord’s Supper is all but relegated to the shelf. This is not surprising, especially when many a church’s desire is to show the world that they are not much different than the so-called “seekers.” For this reason, this issue of Tabletalk will aim to present a succinct, Calvinian and biblical understanding of the Lord’s Supper.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Tom Ascol, Terry Johnson, Robert Letham, Keith A. Mathison, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, October 2006: Covenant Theology

Covenant theology is, in essence, biblical theology. And while reformed thinkers have not necessarily agreed on the minutiae of certain aspects, they have all agreed on the principle of viewing Scripture within a covenantal framework. The symphony of Scripture, and thus of God’s redemptive plan, is largely overlooked today. The fault is partly our own. Systems like Dispensationalism have gained much ground, probably due to their being disseminated in simple, popular ways. It is our hope that this October 2006 edition of Tabletalk can provide a clear and simple response of a more biblical view of God’s handiwork.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, R. Scott Clark, Michael S. Horton, David McKay, Rick Phillips, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, September 2006: Proud Mediocrity

The September 2006 edition of Tabletalk focuses on the theme of mediocrity within our society. Reflecting on the ramifications of worldly standards and norms within the church, Tabletalk presents comprehensive articles on the intended attitudes, work ethics, and decisions expected of us as Christians.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Burk Parsons, George Grant, Chris Donato, Robert Rothwell, Derek W. H. Thomas, Warren A. Gage, Greg Barolet, Geoff Stevens, John Sartelle, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, August 2006: The History of the Church in the Sixth Century

Upon entering a discussion of the sixth century, one often finds little with which he is familiar. Yet despite such unfamiliarity, the work of God through the church of Christ endured—even through the Dark Ages. For this reason, the theme of the August 2006 issue of Tabletalk focuses on the sixth century. While by no means intended to provide a complete history of this century, Tabletalk will aim to present several of its highlights by exploring its historical and theological ramifications.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Sinclair B. Ferguson, Andrew Hoffecker, Tom N. Nettles, R. C. Sproul Jr., Carl R. Trueman, and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, July 2006: Paul

“I am a Jew, from Tarsus of Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city” (Acts 21:39). Saint Paul the apostle is the subject of the July 2006 issue of Tabletalk. The reason is as simple as can be: our love for the man God chose to preach his gospel to the nations. Studying him and his works is arguably the most rewarding endeavor one may undertake. Seeing his dynamic personality—his warmth, his intensity, his devotion, his grace-full preaching—is what leads us to share with Tabletalk’s readers the multi-faceted character of the Apostle to the Gentiles.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Jerry Bridges, John Nunes, Thomas R. Schreiner, R. C. Sproul Jr., Gene Edward Veith, and Cornelis P. Venema.

Tabletalk Magazine, June 2006: The Problem of Evil

The theme of the June 2006 issue of Tabletalk is the problem of evil. In the Christian worldview, evil will finally be conquered; it, like the sea in Revelation 21, will be no more. However, understanding why it is still here, and how God has dealt with it in the cross of Christ and how he will deal with it upon his return, will not only help us to stop the mouths of those who attack the goodness of God, it will help us see how we then shall live as we cling to the hope of evil done away. This issue of Tabletalk, while by no means intended to provide a complete philosophy and history of theodicies, will aim to present a succinct, Reformed understanding of the problem of evil.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, E. Calvin Beisner, Paul Helm, Robert Rayburn, R. C. Sproul Jr., Joni Eareckson Tada, and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, May 2006: The Da Vinci Hoax

The theme of the May 2006 issue of Tabletalk is the Da Vinci hoax, and will serve to teach Christians about the major problems with the Code. The phenomenon known as the Da Vinci Code needs to be answered as succinctly as possible for lay people. As such, we hope to offer sound responses from Christian leaders to enable them to answer thoughtfully the increasingly common question, “What do you think of The Da Vinci Code?”

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Peter R. Jones, R. Albert Mohler Jr., Robert M. Norris, R. C. Sproul Jr., Gene Edward Veith, and James R. White.

Tabletalk Magazine, April 2006: The Holy Trinity

Trinity is the word utilized by Christians to signify the central doctrine of their faith—the truth that in the unity of the Godhead there are three distinct persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is the theme of the April 2006 issue of Tabletalk. Sadly, many Christians deem Trinitarian theology to be speculative and impractical. Yet the early church fathers were not preoccupied with abstractions; their concern was man’s salvation. Thus this issue of Tabletalk will serve to encourage and inform Christians of their ancient and biblical faith in the triune God of redemption.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Don Kistler, Robert Letham, Nick Needham, R. C. Sproul Jr., Allen Vander Pol, and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, March 2006: Defending the Faith

The theme of the March 2006 issue of Tabletalk is the Fundamentalist—Modernist Controversy of the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. As the spirit of the enlightenment embraced by modernists began to infiltrate churches and seminaries across America, the orthodox fundamentalists rose in opposition. The ensuing battle resulted in polarized ideas of what constitutes “Christianity,” denominational splits, and internal struggles that continue even to this day. This issue of Tabletalk, while by no means intended to provide a complete history of the controversy, will aim to present several of its highlights by exploring its historical and theological ramifications for today’s evangelicals.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, D. G. Hart, W. Robert Godfrey, John Piper, and R. C. Sproul Jr.

Tabletalk Magazine, February 2006: The Historical Books

The February 2006 issue of Tabletalk is on the historical books of the Old Testament—from the conquest of Canaan to the post-exilic restoration. It is a sad fact that most Christian’s do not know their own history. As members of God’s family, it would be fruitful to understand his redemptive plans wrought through his people Israel. This issue of Tabletalk serves to remind Christians from whence they came and to where they are going in light of the Messiah’s inauguration of God’s kingdom on earth.

Contributors include R. C. Sproul, Bryan D. Estelle, David M. Howard, Steven J. Lawson, Robert Rothwell, R. C. Sproul Jr., and Gene Edward Veith.

Tabletalk Magazine, January 2006: Pilgrim’s Progress

The theme of the January 2006 issue of Tabletalk is the Christian life, the path begun at the foot of the cross. In the face of a culture that prizes flashy “conversion experiences” stands the biblical record of the Christian life being a race, a journey that entails mountaintops and dark valleys. This issue of Tabletalk serves to teach Christians about the progress of sanctification in the life of the believer.

The pictures in the hard copy (monthly magazine) are great -- I subscribe to it, also. But I purchased the Logos version to enable me to search ALL of the Tabletalks for what the authors have to say on particular topics/subjects/verses. And I can do this in just a second or so. This ability has been a great help to me in research. Furthermore, Morris Proctor taught me how to organize ALL of the Tabletalks into (what he calls) a "non-versified Commentary set." So whenever I am studying a particular passage, I can search ALL of the Tabletalks for information/commentary for that particular passage (can't do that with the hard copy magazine). And that ability has been extremely useful. I'd highly recommend the Logos version of Tabletalk magazine. ___________ PS. I would be really helpful if Logos made some arrangement with Ligonier Ministries to make the Logos version available at some discount for those who already subscribe to the hard copy magazine. Perhaps Ligonier Ministries could supply some sort of code that purchasers could enter to gain a discount on the Logos version at checkout. Just a thought.

I agree with Mike who reviewed this last year. All of the illustrations are missing and thus is a stripped-down version of what the magazine (and digital app) displays. I'm returning this collection for a full refund. I'll wait to see if they update these with the beautiful illustrations.
