The 2011 edition of the Anglicised NIV incorporates modern English and the latest in biblical scholarship into a readable and accurate Bible translation. The three main changes incorporated in this revised edition of the NIV are shifts in everyday language use, advances in biblical scholarship, and gender-specific language that accurately reflects whether men or women are referred to in each instance. The translators have carefully assessed a huge body of scholarship and invited peer submissions in order to review every word of the existing NIV to ensure it remains as clear and relevant today as when it was first published.
This edition uses British spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Numbers 6:24–26: ‘ “ ‘The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace.’ ”
Psalm 46:1–3: God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
Proverbs 3:5–6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Isaiah 41:10: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Mark 1:4: And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
1 Corinthians 14:34–35: Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to enquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
Ephesians 3:16–21: I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. 1 John 2:11: But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.
This newly updated version of the NIV retains its commitment to accuracy even while remaining accessible to the widest audience possible.
