Overview

In Scripture, wisdom is portrayed as a most important treasure, something to be sought after with consistent discipline. We, as Christians, tend to think of wisdom as something to be attained—an ideal to which we aspire. Charles Stanley contends that genuine wisdom is evidenced in how we live. The truly wise person is one whose values, perspectives, career goals, and daily decisions are all shaped by the wisdom found in Christ. Walking Wisely: Real Guidance for Life’s Journey teaches how to apply God's wisdom as you handle finances, relate to others, care for your physical health, and carry out day-to-day duties. Wisdom can be more than an aspired ideal, let it become a way of life!

Top Highlights

“As a whole, we human beings want to be entertained and satisfied far more than we want to be challenged. We want to take the easy path of least resistance because to do otherwise involves effort, change, and discipline.” (Page 6)

“The truth of God’s Word is very clear: You never lose if you choose to live wisely. You always lose if you choose to live foolishly.” (Page ix)

“The person who seeks godly wisdom comes to believe, ‘I am blessed by God. God loves me and approves of me. I am saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, filled with God’s Spirit, and on the basis of what Jesus has done for me and the Holy Spirit continues to do in me, I have favor from God. All of God’s promises pertain to me. All of the talents that God has built into my life are worthy to be developed and used. God has a plan for my life that He is unfolding. God is refining me, preparing me, and molding me into the likeness of Christ Jesus. I belong to Him forever, and He is my loving Father who is continually seeking my good.’” (Page 60)

“When we seek to live according to God’s wisdom, we are saying to our emotions: ‘I walk by faith, not by sight. I will not base every decision on the way that I feel—or the way that I think a certain decision will cause me to feel. I will walk by what the Word of God says. I am going to trust the Holy Spirit to guide me, not my own desires, impulses, and emotions.’” (Pages 48–49)

“Believing with the whole heart that God is in control brings us peace. Believing with the whole heart that God loves us and is working for our good brings us joy. Believing with the whole heart that God is with us every moment of every day brings us contentment.” (Page 57)
