Understanding more about God as the Creator, Ruler, and Redeemer of mankind can assist greatly in making that relationship deeper and more meaningful. In this comprehensive and thought provoking book, Jack Cottrell takes us on a thorough journey through Scripture in order to gain a deeper understanding of what the Bible says about God as Creator, Ruler, and Redeemer. Top Highlights

“Sovereignty is lordship, lordship is ownership, and ownership is control.” (Page 236)

“The third way that God relates to the world is through miracles, which are acts of God that are contrary to natural law.” (Pages 163–164)

“First is the kind of divine activity that is in view, namely, preserving and governing” (Pages 139–140)

“The idea of providence is not really derived from any particular biblical terminology. It is rather a doctrine or a concept that appears on nearly every page of Scripture, to which the term providence has been appropriately attached. Our understanding of providence comes from a thorough study of the teaching of Scripture as a whole, and not from the way a few words are used.” (Page 139)

“The first way in which God relates to the world is called general providence. This includes primarily the realm of nature and refers mostly to the unvarying works of God in preserving the universe in existence and directing its natural processes according to the predictable patterns we call the ‘laws of nature.’” (Page 163)

Cottrell is one of the best theologians of which you've never heard. His theological training came from some of the best schools in the country under the top theologians of his day (M.Div. from Westminster Theological Seminary; Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary). Though he taught at the seminary level for nearly 50 years, he always stayed connected to the local church. One of Cottrell's gifts is his ability to take complex ideas and simplify them for the average reader. Most of his 45 books are less than 200 pages. This book (God Most High), however, is 450+ pages and is a condensed version of his previous trilogy on God (God the Creator, God the Ruler, God the Redeemer) which totaled a combined 1,500 pages. While his trilogy on God was on a scholarly level with hundreds of footnotes, this current book distills the best of those three volumes making it more accessible to pastors and students alike. Cottrell is one of the top non-reformed theologians of our day, and you will get a good sense of that from this book. If you want a deeper dive into that topic, I'd recommend the second volume from his trilogy on God (God the Ruler, found on in print elsewhere). Cottrell interacts with other ideas and always gives the reader biblical and theological clarity on issue at hand. As a general rule, Dr. Cottrell gave his copyright to the publisher - a generous and humble gift.He is also the teacher for two different video courses on Logos. Cottrell is a conservative theologian who is fiercely committed to the authority and inspiration of the Scriptures.
